Gina Torry is the sister of Lisa Torry Smith. After her sister Lisa Torry Smith was killed crossing the street in a crosswalk in a school zone in Fort Bend County, Texas, Ms. Torry began working with Fort Bend County leaders and residents to make streets safer for pedestrians. With the help of a bipartisan group of Texas leaders, Ms. Torry advocated for a new law in Texas to make it a crime to kill or injure a pedestrian or other vulnerable road user in Texas: the Lisa Torry Smith Act.
As President of Citizens for Road Safety, Ms. Torry oversees a network of Citizens for Road Safety community volunteers and staff raising awareness of the new Texas crosswalk law, as well as helping victims and their families seek implementation of the new crosswalk law.
Ms. Torry is an international peace and security expert specializing in the advancement of international law and treaty processes with United Nations Member States, including the protection of women, children and civilians in situations of armed conflict.
This engaging and informative session highlights the best practices and practical approaches to pedestrian safety laws, fostering a collaborative effort toward creating safer communities for everyone.
