Meet our Keynote Speaker for the 2025 Pedestrian Safety Forum!

Dr. Rebecca Sanders (she/her), Founder and President of Safe Streets Research & Consulting

Dr. Sanders brings nearly 20 years of academic and consulting experience analyzing and addressing pedestrian, bicyclist, e-scooter, and motorist safety, behavior, and mobility through crash analysis, survey research, and design. She has published groundbreaking research on pedestrian safety at night, pedestrian fatality hotspots, bicyclist and driver roadway design preferences, and e-scooter behaviors and user preferences. Her recent work further explores pedestrian safety at night, pedestrian crossing preferences, pedestrian and bicyclist safety along arterials, and pedestrian exposure estimation and safety modeling to influence national policy and design guidance for the National Academies of Sciences. Dr. Sanders has significantly contributed to Vision Zero and systemic safety projects across the country, including in Boston, Denver, Seattle, Alexandria, Austin, Portland, and Long Beach, and her work has informed safety standards, systemic safety methodologies, and related safety policy. As an appointed member of TRB’s Safety & Operations Section, former Chair of TRB’s Bicycle Transportation Committee, and an appointed member of the California Transportation Commission’s Vehicle Weight Safety Task Force and the City of Portland’s Pedestrian Advisory Committee, Dr. Sanders blends nationwide insights and local experience with subject matter expertise to identify ways to improve transportation safety for all.

The 2025 Pedestrian Safety Forum is being held on June 17 at the Norris Center in San Antonio. Registration is free! Click here to register!
