In the 2025 legislative session, Texas lawmakers addressed a gap in state law regarding how sidewalk users other than pedestrians (bicyclists, motor-assisted scooter riders, skateboarders, etc.) are treated. The new law, effective September 1, 2025, extends many protections afforded to pedestrians to these other sidewalk users. It brings Texas law up-to-date with how people use the transportation system and eliminates a common gray area. This presentation will discuss the details of the law and its importance, issues to consider, and the implications for education and enforcement.
This meeting was held virtually on Microsoft Teams.
